2021 Co^lluvial "Las Nenas" La Rinconada Vineyard Chardonnay
The 2021 Co^lluvial™ “Las Nenas” Chardonnay bottling is grounded in the majesty of California’s Santa Rita Hills AVA (American Viticultural Area). The fruit is drawn from the La Rinconada Vineyard. Planted in 1997, La Rinconada sits adjacent to the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. Home to 20 vineyard blocks and 12 clones, La Rinconada is also primarily Pinot Noir, complemented by some very special Chardonnay vines. This site enjoys the maritime influences of the Pacific Ocean, in particular the fog and cooling winds provide the perfect conditions for a longer growing season. The lower portion of La Rinconada is a sandy loam, which transitions to more clay loam mixed with diatomaceous earth, alluvium soils and shale on the hills closer to Sanford & Benedict.
“This is a live wire, as electric as the snap of telephone line on western reaches of Santa Rosa Road, where La Rinconadais home to breezes and fog. Captured in chardonnay, this starts out smoky and dense, becoming lemony and mouthwatering with air, the tension bearing a subtle grip and impressive length. It’s mouth filling but not heavy, ready for duck confit.” 94 Pts Patrick J. Cominskey, Wine & Spirits
“Scents of white flowers and lemon curd with a hint of oak. Flavors of bright lemon curd, citrus pith and lemon juice have a wonderful tangy acidity. A hint of slightly herbal greenness lingers in the finish.” 17 Pts JancisRobinson.com
“The 2021 Chardonnay Las Nenas La Rinconada Vineyard is rock-solid and brings more texture than most here. Notes of ripe orchard fruits, honeyed lemon curd, crushed stone, and white flowers are followed by a ripe, medium-bodied white with a supple, elegant mouthfeel and outstanding length.” 91 Pts Jeb Dunnuck
